As you can see by the title this blog is just going to be a summary of what I got up to over August and the many adventures I had from going wild camping on Dartmoor to getting in the sea to do a surf photoshoot to taking drone shots of the Devonshire coast! It was a fun month that I really enjoyed and I managed to get some amazing shots along the way which I'm excited to show you!
Wild camping - Foggin Quarry - Red Lakes - Westward Ho! Coastal path.
So over the summer holidays and my time off I really got into wild camping. I've done camping before when younger and loved it but just never really did in the later years. I brought all the stuff I needed and headed out to Dartmoor for my first wild camp which was at fogging quarry!
It was perfect weather with only a slight bit of rain in the middle of the night. Here's a small clip from the place we camped ⛺️
Next place I camped was at the Red lakes just past Avon dam. For this I had to do a little hike to the dame which was so much bigger than I thought and then about 3 miles over marshland to the small tor and lakes. This was super fun and I managed to get some really good shot throughout the day! The best shots were from the night when there was so many stars it was a really amazing site to see.
Here is a Tiktok I made of the journey! The drone footage is my favourite part.
The last place I went to was closer to home and it was along the coastal path near Westward Ho! This was a nice trip as it was so much closer to home so didn't have to worry to much about the drive or making sure I got everything because I can just pop back quickly and get it 😂
Starting to turn a hobby into a business 💵
I've always done photography as a hobby and have felt luckily enough to be able to afford it to just be that a hobby! Recently I have been making steps to start turning this into a business.
First I created a new page on the website outlining the services I can offer and also the price at which I would charge.
Secondly I ordered some new business cards that I can give out which has all the contact details needed to get a hold of me.
The next step for me would be to just up my marketing and put myself out there as much as possible. I have done shoots for people and products before but have done them for free as it was just helping me to gain experience and help boost my skills but now I think I'm at a point where I can now charge for my work.
Pricing took me a while to figure out because I'm no Nat geo photographer but I do rate my work a lot. I spoke to many people and other photographers and found a rate at which is good pricing for both customer and myself! I'm excited to see how this turns out and who knows maybe I can make this my main job 📸
I also did a couple of photoshoots over the course of August as well. One was for Eastside FC was a pretty simple shoot all they wanted was just each player to have a picture in both the home and away kits. The next shoot was a fun one as it was down the beach on a hot day! A couple of my friends went surfing as they are recently learning and asked if I wanted to come down and take some shots of them, couldn't say no to the beach and to weather so down I went. I actually went in the sea about knee deep which for most is probably waist but because of my long legs its not a small pro with being tall 😂 Here's a couple of the shots I took from that day!
